Crew Call, Inc., the oldest and largest crew referral company in the business, has been providing a steady stream of nationwide technical crew job referrals since 1982. Founded in the beginning by frustrated crew personnel who grew tired of constant unrelenting job searching.

Everyone who was calling and mailing production companies in search of work dedicated the results into a shared jobs database. Soon people were hired to do all the outbound phone calls to gather the job information. It wasn't long before companies were calling Crew Call to list their projects -- after all it was (and is) a free service to all production companies. Friends caught wind of the database and asked to gain access.

Offices were set up in Hollywood to be the job workshop. Companies would call to fill crew positions and office staff would (using a manual system) determine which members would get the information. The staff would then mail (later to become faxing) packets of resumes for Crew Call member subscribers. This system was time consuming and "after the fact" in some hurry-up cases. It was determined the U.S. Postal system was not the answer.

Enter the computer age: Crew Call ordered state-of-the-art custom computer software to be created that would allow voice mail (a long time before the phone company got in the voice mail business) for each of it's members. Starting with two phone lines and a whole lot of technical headaches Crew Call launched into what became it's job delivery voicemail trademark.

Job calls were placed, using a special non-biased (no humans!) computer program to deliver job calls to individual crew members voice mail boxes. So, for example, a gaffer ONLY heard calls for gaffer, not a generalized crew message.

Messages would be posted within a hour or two and members who chose to carry pagers would get paged to check their voice mail and pick up the job calls. Production companies were delighted to have such fast response and Crew Call became (as still is) a staple for technical crew referrals.

From humble beginnings Crew Call has grown nationwide and expanded into an extensive technical crew membership roster. We have offices in Northern and Southern California, as well as, New York, Chicago and Miami -- all designed to provide the hottest job referrals available, crewing several hundred projects each month -- all paying jobs! Mostly the work is non-union, although we do union work as well.

1995 Crew Call was acquired by a motion picture financial holding company, which allowed for adding more extensive member services and New York offices were added to assist in TV production work. Many new dedicated phone lines were added.

1996 Chicago and Miami were added to allow work to be more regional. More phone lines!

1998 saw the addition of new corporate offices based in Santa Cruz, California (near San Francisco). This was done to simplify the workload coming from Seattle and Canada. Even more phone lines were added - we were beginning to feel like our our phone company.

2000 Crew Call, Inc. now is combined with a new logo: CrewCall-Jobs.com and has a new solution.

We completely outgrew our dedicated custom computer voice mail system. The system allowed for 32 multiplexed incoming phone lines and was maxing out with usage -- causing members to have to hear busy signals.

With the current wide acceptance of the internet we have put in place a NEW dual system.

One system that allows for Internet users to receive personal Crew Call e-mail that lists all the required information formally listened to by telephone.

The second system is a local to you telephone dialup to listen to job calls much the same as before - no computer is required to use this method of job recovery only a telephone. Crew Call members can use one or the other at any time, whichever is most convenient.

So as we more forward through the millennium we are choosing the fastest and most efficient method of job recovery that serves everyone - Internet involved or not.
